In late summer of 2004, the Fruits Basket fandom exploded in wank when it was revealed the bishie main villain Akito was really a woman. Meaning all Akito yaoi fics were now het, and all Akito/Mary Sue fics were now yuri. The shrieks and cries of many fangirls shook the internet. Some now hated Natsuki Takaya for this plot twist. Others chose denial.

Other fans thought it was cool. Some even started liking Akito now that she was a kickass evil woman instead of a jackass evil man.
