Carpet book

The carpet book is the term for the copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that got leaked onto the internet, days before the book's official July 21 release date. Photographs of each page were taken and posted online, effectively giving away the entire story. In each photo the book is seen laying on a carpeted floor, hence the name, with a male hand holding it open to a given page.

Spoilers were of course posted everywhere, and anyone with an internet connection probably saw them, whether by their consent or not.

With the release of the carpet book, the meticulous efforts of JK Rowling and her publishers were completely undermined in one fell swoop. Nevertheless, some Harry Potter fans deemed the book's writing too amateurish, and concluded that it was a fake.
