The Basics

Cassandra Claire, AKA Cassie Claire or CC: a BNF in the Harry Potter fandom, she wrote the three incredibly long fanfics collectively titled The Draco Trilogy. This trilogy was among the first in the fandom to rehabilitate the somewhat villainous Draco Malfoy, but it is also known for sparking an epic plagiarism wank. See Plagiarism and All That for details.

Cassandra Claire is also the author of The Very Secret Diaries ("VSDs"), popular parody pieces in the Lord of the Rings fandom. This series spawned wank when some people continued the VSDs themselves after CC stopped writing them, thus incurring CC's displeasure. Funny, seeing as the VSDs were a pastiche (in the real sense of the word this time) of Bridget Jones' Diary and so not spectacularly original themselves.

In December of 2004, her apartment in NYC was burgled and she and her flatmates lost several computers. A fundraising drive in the Harry Potter fandom to replace their laptops brought on another epic wank. See Laptopgate for details.

Cassandra Claire is sort of like sand. She gets into everything, directly or indirectly. So much so that there is a Jurisimprudence law about the phenomenon: the Cassandra Claire Is Everywhere Law.

Cassandra Clare?

Yes, her original fantasy trilogy, Mortal Instruments (not to be confused with her now-deleted fanfic of the same title), is published under that name. (No-one's really sure what subtracting the "i" is supposed to accomplish.) The first novel, City Of Bones, was published in March 2007. The party began pre-publication, the centerpiece being a dissection of the "original" main character by super-Sue-sporker gehayi at Canon Sues. Given CC's history, it was no surprise that when gehayi's spork hit Clairvoyant Wank, her defenders started to come out in force.
