Death Note

Death Note is a wordy manga/anime series about an insanely smart high school senior (who's also a hit with the ladies) and his adventures in killing people using a notebook titled Deux Ex Machina-- oh, sorry, I mean Death Note. His name is either Light or Raito, depending on who you ask.

There's other characters as well, such as L, an eccentric genius who can command the support of damned near any law enforcement officer in the world, a supernatural being named Ryuk, and... you know, the supporting cast.

Is the fandom wanky? Well, the series is fairly popular and has been subjected to yaoi by fans many times, so it goes without saying.

We actually can't blame the fans for creating the many yaoi fanfics that they do since Light's last name (Yagami) is "Im a gay" spelled backwards.
