Doujinshi

Doujinshi are Japanese comics, fanfic, or a combination of the two, self-published by fans of whatever series they're writing/drawing about. Some well-known manga artists began their careers this way, such as CLAMP and Kazuma Kodaka.

One would like to think that, since the artists are paying money to print it, the art would be good, if not great. One would be horribly wrong.

You might say doujinshi is another word for fanart, but it's better because it's Japanese.
