Luckily for FW, the
news wasn't received
with such subtlety.

So on October 19, 2007, JK Rowling does a reading of her somewhat famous book series in Carnegie Hall and has a little Q&A afterwards. During this, she happens to mentions that the wise old mentor headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is gay.

Some people are happy. Some are amused.

Others are neither.

Whether JKR's great crime here was making one of her characters gay, or cowardly waiting until the books had sold millions of copies to out a character that fulfills all the stereotypes anyway by being old and dead (and not middle-aged and dead) is currently being debated. Everywhere. Including CNN. Is it the promised Potterdämmerung, its hour come round at last?

  • From The Leaky Cauldron[1] (some comments appear to have been deleted):
    • "Earlier some one commented that no one deserves to be mistreated or harassed because of their sexual orientation – this is absolutely true and THAT could have been in the series. But making the greatest wizard that ever lived gay doesn’t say that – it says 'Hey kids, you should be gay too!'" (inspiring an icon by scatterheart)
    • "Based on her writing, the kind of attraction Dumbledore felt towards Grindelwald was not of the gay nature."
    • "i think many bisexual people choose homogeneous relationships just for the attention anyway"

HEY GUYS. HEY HEY GUYS. Do you realize what this means? WE MADE DUMBLEDORE GAY.
I don't know about y'all, but I'm totally willing to take credit for this." - ru_debega on a comment from TLC, inspiring this icon

  • "Clearly the only way JKR will be able to make up for not mentioning this oh-so-important-to-the-plot fact in the books is to get working on Book 8, Harry Potter and His Thoughts on Yaoi." - ahiru
