A derogatory term for a very stupid fanperson.

It's gender-neutral. This is because the gendered words tend to carry connotations of their own - fangirl paints a giggling, squeeing pile of feminine uselessness who likes her bishounen a little too much, and fanboy describes a brain-dead piece of primordial idiocy who likes actionfic and trolling.

There's also the argument that a true fanit doesn't deserve human status, let alone a gender, hence the neutrality of the word.

Best of all, it can be used globally and without having to look at the eyebleaching teenyboppese of the profile of the fanit in question to find out what sex they are.

Unlike the words 'fangirl' and 'fanboy', no-one will ever refer to themselves as a fanit - there are some very clever and likeable people who like to call themselves 'Remus Lupin fangirls' or 'comic book fanboys' or whatever. Fanit is only ever an insult, and therefore should be used with utmost care whenever possible.

May or may not be the same thing as fanbrats.
