Was the Twenty-third of June a mysterious date?

What was Fandom_Love?

On June 23, 2005, the Fandom_Wank layout changed; along with it, the community userinfo changed. Wank had been rejected in favor of love! Wankas posted apologies to those they had mocked, celebrating the new theme.

Some Fandom Love pages, saved on the Twenty-fourth of June by (then-anonymouse) Reeve:

All in all, it was a glorious joke... with just a few little issues.

June 23

There were some communication problems with Fandom Love. See, the plan was that the fandom_wank community would be officially renamed fandom_love by the JFA. The JFA had even been given a heads-up on the prank. Then, alas, they thought she was handling the final details, and she thought they were handling the final details, and they thought...

Oopsy!

The layout changed on June 23 (pretty pink!), but the community name didn't.

As this particular prank by the ModSquad brought the funny, everybody wanted to see it. This led to massive strain on the JournalFen webserver, which wasn't designed to handle that kind of load. The JFA hadn't made a note of the date, so they weren't expecting the prank...

Naturally, the server spent most of the Twenty-third of June that year spitting out 400 and 404 errors, which massively pissed off non-FW associated communities on Journalfen in addition to the JFA.

Of course, what with the continual crashing of the servers, it took a few days to restore the usual Fandom Wank layout.

June 25

hugsnkisses did a little griping about the servers crashing in a locked post.

funkyhelix emailed the locked post to the JFA, and posted the email in her own journal.[1][2]

The JFA lost their tempers rather spectacularly.[3]

So did everyone else. Elfy questioned why funkyhelix hadn't been suspended for reposting locked material[4]; elfy was mysteriously suspended herself.[5] In response, backfromspace resigned from the ModSquad.[6]

June 27

Hugsnkisses deleted her JF account.

The JFA posted a policy clarification.[7]

June 28

Elfy's account was unsuspended.[8] It didn't help.

July 22

hugsnkisses briefly resurfaced before deleting her account again.[9]
