Fandom wank wiki:Community Portal
From Fandom wank wiki
On other wikis, the Community Portal is used to suggest things to do, and to show groups of articles and things. Well, this page might end up that way, but right now, metacommentary seems to be the way it's going. But remember, anyone can edit anything.

Wiki Statistics
Wiki Time and Date: 01:52, July 5, 2008.
There are 930 articles. The longest article is FPB, which is not ironic in the least. Excluding Current events and Deletion requests, the second longest is The Ms. Scribe Story, though it's still a lot shorter than the story itself.
The wiki now has over 1400 users. Over 840 are banned sockpuppets or spambots, though.
More detailed statistics are also available.

Notable Articles
Are you proud of something you've done, or seen someone else do? Do you want to call attention to it so it doesn't get overlooked by people who don't obsessively check the Recent changes page? Plug them here.
- I'm very impressed with Janegraddell's recent Knitting article. It's funny, topical, and covered all the wank, all at once. --Mindset 06:22, 10 July 2006 (BST)

Editing Help
Pretty much everything useful to handling the wiki is covered, either on the Main Page, in Current events, in Help:Contents, or in the Guides category. But if people want to ask something, here or in Current Events would be the place.
- I'm sure some people overlook the
button. It's a really cool thing that lets you stamp your name and a timestamp on a comment on a talk page, or anywhere else. --Mindset 06:22, 10 July 2006 (BST)
- Discovered a neat trick with redirects - while creating them, you can also categorize them. This allows alternate (sometimes more common) titles to appear on category pages. For currently existing redirects, you can add categories, but only if you put the category on the same line as the redirect command. (Otherwise, even when you save, it doesn't count as an edit at all.) Unfortunately, it's still impossible to redirect to a section, and redirecting to categories only shows the description text but not the articles. --Mindset 22:30, 26 July 2006 (BST)
- Started mucking around with the quoting tags and found something interesting-- it seems that additional equal signs (=), such as those in a link to a thread of comments, somehow messes up the markup. Is there any way around this? --Reeve 02:47, 10 February 2007 (GMT)
- AFAIK, you can try %3D in place of = signs (or whatever it is) as Mindset suggests and see if it works, or move the threaded link outside the quote tag. The reason Nothing is like the Nazis changed in the way it did is because of the =/threaded comment problem. -- Avocado 08:57, 10 February 2007 (GMT)
- What Avocado said. I made a note of it in the template's discussion page after I ran into the problem myself. --Mindset 01:03, 11 February 2007 (GMT)
- Ahh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up ^_^ --Reeve 20:53, 11 February 2007 (GMT)
Forgotten Articles
- Right on the front page is an unused link to Wanka Sites. Hey, look, a place where you can plug your blogs and webcomics, or anything else.
Categories & Fandoms
Are there overlooked categories or fandoms? Is there a wank you've always wanted to see written up but can't make the attempt yourself? Suggest them here.
- I seem to remember a lot of wank reports about Josh Groban fans (Groban is the "You Raise Me Up" guy). Don't know much about him or the fandom, so I'm not up to the challenge of starting an entry... any takers? --Reeve 01:41, 1 August 2006 (BST)
- I can't seem to figure out how to make a new page (or maybe I just lack that power), but either way, considering the number of wanks getting posted about it lately, not to mention the ongoing shipwar and the bizarre as hell Capslockers, shouldn't House have its own page by now? --The clansmen 21:45, 26 September 2006 (BST)
- There are three easy ways to create a new page. Option (1) Create a wikilink to your desired page title from an existing article, click on the link, and start editing. Option (2) Type the desired page title (using caps where necessary) in the "search" box, click "Search," and click on the "This exact title" link (which will be red) at the top. Start editing. Option (3) Type http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/(your desired article title, using caps where necessary, replacing spaces with underscores); start editing. -- Avocado 23:24, 26 September 2006 (BST)
- I'd like to see a page for "English is not a major" [1] if anyone would like to write it. Miraba 20:45, 9 January 2007 (GMT)
- I'm surprised to see there is no Lost wank page because while most of it is your garden variety shipper wars, there's also a good deal of stalkerish, borderline creepy behavior such as harrassing, trolling and infiltrating the enemy camp. And then of course there's that one YouTube troll that calls all members of the opposing ship SWINGERS! VILE, IMMORAL SWINGERS! Lost fandom needs to get its wank on here in my opinion.
- I'd love to see an article on Kittenmommy's animal abuse sploogefest get written for the implosions section. I thought that was a fantastic mess. --Kayla 03:48, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ought there be an article on theferret's offer of free manual mammograms, or is it still unfunny? --Brown Betty 00:36, 9 May 2008 (BST)
- Would like to see a page dedicated to Broadway wanks, if anyone wants to start one up. --Reeve 21:35, 17 May 2008 (BST)
The Lexicon Wank
- We now need pages for Steve Vander Ark and the Lexicon. I'm afraid I'm just not funny enough to put them together, although I'd be happy to pull quotes out of the various reports. Miraba 18:38, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- This is one of those wanks that's so unwieldy that I'm probably going to end up writing it up for the wiki simply as a means of understanding what the hell happened. But as usual, I can't think of a good title for the wank itself. "Lexicongate" seems to have presented itself [2]. Any better ideas? --Jim Smith 04:52, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- There seems to be a discussion on the topic here. I'm sure they'll find a consensus shortly, if we don't make it a fait accompli first. --Mindset talk 05:27, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Don't forget this thread.[3] -- Avocado 06:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- "Why does JKR hate freedom?" has a similar title structure to other wanks, but it isn't very snappy. We can start with general articles for the Lexicon, SVA, and RDR books until we find a title we like. Miraba 14:08, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Looking at how we've listed the JKR wanks in the HP category, I came up with the following:
- JKR vs the Lexicon
- JKR hates freedom
- JKR is a hypocrite
- I prefer the first one for its obviousness. Miraba 14:25, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- What about something alluding to the publisher's referencing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? "JKR and The Manhattan Project" or "JKR Drops Fat Man and Little Boy" or "JKR and the Potsdam Declaration?" Too obscure, or just funny to me? --Snacky 15:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, I like it, but I think it'll probably be one of the section titles rather than the article itself. Right now, "JKR vs. SVA & RDR OMG" is growing on me -- it has that perfect combination of explaining the whole story while being completely incomprehensible at the same time. :) --Mindset talk 19:30, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Despite generally hating ampersands, I could get behind that one. ;) Miraba 20:17, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Now that it's been a week, any other thoughts? I'd like to jump on this before it gets even more unwieldy. I'm thinking we may need a category to put everything. Miraba 17:17, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Created Lexicongate. We need pages on the major players. Miraba 20:32, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
JKR: Lying, elitist, nouveau-riche welfare scammer off her meds!
- There is some much batshit on the Beedle the Bard auction that I'd be happy to start constructing this one. Titles shorter than the one above:
- JKR is a classist bitch
- JKR discriminates against the poor
- JKR has forgotten her roots
- Any variations? Miraba 15:14, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Potterdämmerung
- Anyone else interested in expanding the Potterdämmerung to include dates of the various wanks? Miraba 15:18, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Tez's seal of Extreme Fail
Anyone else think this should get an entry/category? Lexicongate is the only one I know off the top of my head that obtained it. Miraba 16:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Problem with Evil Chicken wank page
The What Would Richard Rahl Think of This Wank? page doesn't load when you click on its link, even though the database seems to think it exists. For some reason, MediaWiki is redirecting to a URL with the "%3F" (hex-encoded question-mark) from the end, a page which does not exist. -- Khym Chanur 05:27, 10 July 2007 (BST)
- When I click on the link you posted, it does convert to "%3F", but the page opens for me. Is there a specific problem link elsewhere? -- Avocado 06:44, 10 July 2007 (BST)
- Huh, now it's working. Weird -- Khym Chanur 21:11, 10 July 2007 (BST)
