IP address

(Redirected from IP)

The unique series of numbers (based on the Internet Protocol standard) that identifies your computer when you are on the internet.

Some people have static IP addresses, while others receive a new one from their service provider every time they connect to the net. Either way, your computer's IP address will always fall within a certain range of numbers leased to the provider. This fact is the most basic tool in the exposure of sockpuppets, because the odds are pretty low that two completely different people just happen to be on the same network, the same forum, and the same side of an argument.

On the other hand, you could blame your nanny.
