Mystery Science Theater 3000

Mystery Science Theater 3000, often shortened to MST or MST3K, was a cult TV show about a man and his robot sidekicks, who were forced to watch horribly bad movies for the rest of eternity while trapped on a satellite out in space. To keep themselves from going insane, Mike and the 'bots (or Joel and the 'bots, if you're old enough to remember that) would snark throughout and verbally rip the movie a new one. Fans of the show are referred to as MiSTies, and are generally fairly calm, for a fandom.

The TV show gives its name to the MST format of mocking bad fanfic, especially on sites like GAFF and The Nancing Pony, whereby parts of a story are quoted and snark is inserted between the lines. This can be a good source of wank if the author finds out and shows up to complain.
