So who is Mary Sue?

Long-lost niece of Dumbledore, beloved of Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger alike, speaker of Parseltongue, Gryffindor's new star Quidditch player, a Seer more powerful than any in history and all-around SooperDooperNiceGirl.

• The Tenth Walker in the Lord of the Rings, a high-school girl who falls through a magic doorway to Middle-Earth. She is a natural with a sword, Legolas is instantly smitten with her, and she saves the day with witty banter/uber-intelligent suggestions/awesome kick-ass action.

• Spike's new girlfriend, the "day-walking vampire with a soul, mysterious, with glowing violet eyes that changed colour with her mood and sleek, red-golden hair that hung in shimmers to her waist."

• Mary Sue's twin brother, Gary Stu: a handsome brooding badass who beats up the male characters for no reason, is adored by the women, and saves the day.

• Heck, according to rabid yaoi fangirls, all females who come within a foot of their precious bishies are Mary Sues...
