Fanfic written by Riley. Bane of WIKTT, back in the day.

Pawn to Queen was Riley's unfinished Snape/Hermione "masterpiece." It was heavily influenced by C.J. Cherryh's Cyteen-- and Nietzsche. Mustn't forget Nietzsche.

The Wank Itself

Started when:
darkrose, Damiana, Auror Borealis, and McAmy expressed criticism of the fic on WIKTT, around February 2002. After extensive onlist discussion between Riley and all detractors, further discussion of Pawn to Queen was banned on WIKTT. This spawned the creation of Yahoo! Groups such as the now-defunct "Pawn to Crap" and the still-extant Snapefic Liberation Front.

Highlights:

August 2002: I spend over 40 hours a week replying to feedback!
February 2003: but Riley, like Admiral Naismith, has given her creator as much as she can
June 2004: Riley is vanity published.

The Other Side-- Aftermath

Riley indicated that she continued to welcome critiques of her fanfic in fic form.

Darkrose and Damiana obliged, with Darkrose posting "Steel Lion" on Fanfiction.net under the alias of Strega Zapped, and Damiana posting "Strega of Borg" under the alias of Bizarro Strega.

...It turned out that critiques in fic form were not so welcome after all.

In fairly short order, Damiana and Darkrose came out as authors of the parody fics. The fics garnered some positive and negative reviews on Fanfiction.net, including a real doozy from TextualSphinx.[2][3][4] Not too long after, both fics mysteriously disappeared from Fanfiction.net. No explanation was ever provided.[5][6]

When Riley's "40 hours a week replying to feedback" message appeared in early August 2002, Darkrose commented on being accused of causing Riley's heart attack.
