Talk:Harry/Hermione
From Fandom wank wiki
Not that I'm an expert on Harry Potter, but why was "made OBHWF canon" changed to "made Harry/Ginny canon"? Any argument that Ron and Hermione aren't canonically a couple could equally be made about Harry and Ginny, I'd think. - Jim Smith
- Because while it's certainly more likely at this point, it's not actually canon yet. Pedantry, I know. There was no on-screen dialogue about an actual relationship, which many take as the definition of canon. That, and the issues surrounding the Harmonians really have more to do with H/G than with R/Hr in this book. That's why I changed it. It's an issue of what you call "canon", and I'm going by the strictest of definitions.--Thephotoman 01:17, 30 November 2005 (GMT)
- That, and the issues surrounding the Harmonians really have more to do with H/G than with R/Hr in this book. I'd disagree here. Think about all the wank about how Rowling "ruined" Hermione's character by (among other things) settling for that misanthropic abuser Ron. Either of the two ships would damage H/Hr, but doing (or at least prepping) both of them really sunk the ship because Harmonians couldn't, for example, have Hermione be jealous of Ginny for stealing Harry. - Jim Smith
- It really wasn't the "settling" that most of us had a problem with, but instead the passive-agressive way she handled her feelings for Ron. The Hermione we knew was usually unafraid to speak her mind, whereas in previous books, she usually had diarrhea of the mouth. --Thephotoman 03:00, 30 November 2005 (GMT)

Not sure-- I didn't change it-- but OBHWF sometimes does include additional couples (see the revised OBHWF entry), and I think everyone has to get married for OBHWF to be fulfilled.-- Avocado 20:46, 29 November 2005 (GMT)
I'm one of the people who'd agree that R/Hr are canon, but I think the reason is that people are defining 'canon' differently. I'd count interview statements about the ships as canonical, and would also say a relationship is canonical even if it hasn't been brought to its conclusion yet, but someone else might think a ship is canonical if they've gone on a date, something only Harry and Ginny have yet. I think people often try to use the lowest common demoninator for writing anything that might be controversial.
Btw, your summaries are cracking me up. --Narcissam 20:47, 29 November 2005 (GMT)
- OK, I guess I could see that. But the point needs to be that Book 6 caused wank by (at the very least) supporting the plausibilty of R/Hr and H/G. The ships may or may not be canon, but they both contributed to the Book 6 wank. - Jim Smith
- The wank wasn't caused by the mere plausibility of Ron/Hermione. It was caused by the actual Harry/Ginny, the percieved slight against the Harry/Hermione camp, and the overall low quality of the romance writing in HBP. Admittedly, Ron/Lavender sucked more, simply because "Won-Won" got on my fraking nerves. --Thephotoman 01:17, 30 November 2005 (GMT)
- of course the quality was low, it's not a romance book! Okay, I'm calm again. I think OBHWF was good in the original description. And secretly pray at the end Hermione runs off with goddamn Krum. - Not Sep
- nods* Of course, it wasn't just the book. There needs to be some reference to THE INTERVIEW. --Narcissam 21:04, 29 November 2005 (GMT)
- Hopefully I've got the differences mixed well enough here. Now somebody needs to go write up THE INTERVIEW article. ;) --Mindset 22:24, 29 November 2005 (GMT)
- Have taken a stab at it. --Avocado 22:57, 29 November 2005 (GMT)
- Now that was absolutely perfect. Props to NarcissaM for the title, but I love what you wrote. Still giggling... --Mindset 08:37, 30 November 2005 (GMT)
- Good. I'm glad that one worked. If you happen to run across the incest quote, please link it. I went searching, but couldn't locate it immediately. -- Avocado 09:07, 30 November 2005 (GMT)
- Fandom Wank persecuted the HMS Harmony forums under lock and key, so the original page isn't open, but I can find the quotes. --Narcissam 15:38, 30 November 2005 (GMT)
