November 17, 2005: Janine Cross's book, Touched by Venom, was not a hit at the 2005 World Fantasy Conference. Apparently, the convention-goers amused themselves all weekend with an excerpt about "the venom cock." (See below)

Cheryl Morgan mentioned this on her blog and Ballantine/Del Rey's Assistant Publicity Director Colleen Lindsay (at the time - she's been fired since) responded that there was no mention of "venom cock" in the book, and that WFC was just a little con full of nobodies.

When it was pointed out to her that there were 900 people present, mostly professionals, she said that anything under 10,000 was small.

Why Colleen Lindsay cared so much is unknown, as the book was published by RoC, not part of Del Rey at all -- but she does provide a lovely example of Snacky's Law here.
