Wikipedia
From Fandom wank wiki
Yet another example of Internet fanfiction about a well-known book; in this case, the encyclopedia.
Overview
On Wikipedia.org anyone may write anything about any subject under the sun, making it very comprehensive. (That's good!)
But this means people are free to make stuff up. (That's bad.)
But other people can come along and clean up the inaccuracies. (That's good!)
But those people can also make revisions that make the article even worse. (That's bad.)
But this leads to wanky debates about what is canon in real life, which gives Fandom_Wank something to mock. (That's good!)
But Fandom_Wank now has its own wiki that could ironically result in exactly the same type of flamewars. (...)
That's bad. (Can I go now?)
Wanks
- Wikipedia's wank is generally not related to fandom and has little to do with F_W (although sometimes it shows up on OTF Wank). However, at one point a Wikipedia article on famous wanker Cassie Claire was so heavily trolled that the Heidipatrol successfully vied to have it deleted.
- Noted comic book artist and wanker John Byrne and the patrons of his official message board also caused a celebrated wank when they took issue with unspecified details in Byrne's Wikipedia entry, decrying not only the entire article but also Wikipedia's entire existence.
- Terry Goodkind's fanboy Mystar also battled with Wikipedia's editors regarding his categorization as a fantasy writer and many other elements of asshattery.
- Wikipedia deleted Fandom Wank's entry as "non-notable", but we didn't wank about it. Much. [1] [2]
- Also, one must never forget the emperor of Atlantium.
- A good listing of "Wikipedia's Lamest Edit Wars" can be found on Wikipedia itself (link via this post in Fandom Lounge).
- Not all that wanky, but Wikipedia's list of unusual articles is also a pretty entertaining read.
