Woman Fired for Writing Potterporn
From Fandom wank wiki
July 25, 2003: Fresh from attending Nimbus, Msscribe announced on her LiveJournal that an anonymous person had sent letters to her boss and the local newspaper, outing her as a writer of erotic Harry Potter fanfiction. Msscribe's boss, no less than Delaware Senator Joe Biden, was fully prepared to keep her on and weather the inevitable political scandal, but she chose to resign to protect his career.
Fandom--and fandom_wank--went ballistic at the news, which obviously struck a chord with anyone fearful that This Could Happen To You. Reason began to prevail at F_W with a particularly insightful comment by Illuminati:
| “ | How about some independent verification of this story? What is the name of the newspaper and the reporter? If true, this story seems very newsworthy, not to mention grounds for a million dollar lawsuit against her former employer. I imagine something with the headline of "Woman Fired for Writing Potterporn" would be reported on by newspapers and television stations across the country, heck even CNN or Fox News, provoking much outrage. I don't think even the Leaky Cauldron is going to run a story without some outside verfication though. | ” |
In light of the posting of The Ms. Scribe Story, the entire wank has been largely dismissed as a hoax meant to win sympathy for Msscribe and cast aspersions on her enemies at Gryffindor Tower.
